The cost of quality

An  exponential If the costs of a project are plotted according to quality level, they tend to be infinite for total quality. The delta quality zone is located between a minimum acceptable level (red) and a realistic level (green).

The delta (the grey zone) must be less than the cost of non-quality, (NQ) expressed by two elements:

a. business impact (lost clients, disappointed clients,..) and image impact (success competition,...)

b. the cost of correction, maintenance, updating, troubleshooting,...

Therefore
The right balance? Every project is different,  but our observations show that if less than 20 % of intitial resources is dedicated to quality control, you are likely to have problems. The more complex the project is, and the bigger the development team, the greater the risks.
